Llamas, Laughter, and Learning: A Creative Adventure with Jonathan Stutzman & Heather Fox

What happens when you mix award-winning children’s books, a crowd of excited elementary students, and a llama that just might destroy the world? Pure magic—and a whole lot of laughs!

Through our Expert in Residence grant, all four Warwick elementary schools welcomed children’s author Jonathan Stutzman and illustrator Heather Fox for a high-energy day of creativity, storytelling, and inspiration.

Stutzman’s animated reading of their book, Llama Destroys the World, had students laughing, cheering, and fully immersed. Afterward, Fox led an interactive drawing session where students learned to sketch their very own Llama, resulting in a room full of budding artists and proud smiles.

But beyond the fun, students also discovered how books are created—from story ideas to published pages—and gained a window into creative careers they may one day pursue.

Rebecca Martin, librarian at John Beck Elementary, shared:

“Hearing from authors and illustrators gets students excited about the reading and writing process.”

This wasn’t just a visit—it was a spark. The local connection made it even more meaningful.
